The university confirmed the incident and said the Masked Rider was transported to a hospital for evaluation where she is recovering and is in good spirits.

Centennial Champion, the Masked Rider horse, was secured and is safe.

The current Masked Rider for the 2025-2026 school year is Rose Rosas, according to the university’s website. Rosas grew up in Brady, Texas, and is a junior at the university. She is the 64th Masked Rider of the university.

The university says the Masked Rider is the oldest and most popular mascot of the university that still exists today. It started as a dare in 1936 and was then called the ghost rider, because no one knew the rider’s identity.

It was not made an official mascot until 1954.
