“Traumatic events can impact anyone at any time,” says Glorimar Medina, MD, CEO of Hospital Campuses at Harris Health. “In trauma, every second matters. We are always here and open when you need us most.”

Stephen Mora, trauma program director at Ben Taub, emphasizes that being named a Level I trauma center means the hospital offers the most comprehensive and advanced care for trauma patients.

“We have the capabilities of performing innovative types of life saving measures when seconds count,” he said.

In addition to its trauma care, Ben Taub serves as a training hub for future healthcare workers through its partnership with Baylor College of Medicine(BCM).

This month, Harris Health through its trauma teams at Ben Taub and Lyndon B. Johnson(LBJ) Hospital will host events focused on trauma care and recovery:

  • Circle of Survival Trauma Conference: On Wednesday, May 21, Ben Taub will hold this conference, where medical professionals from across the region will discuss the latest advancements in trauma care from the ambulance to the ICU.
  • Annual Trauma Survivor Celebration: On Friday, May 30, the hospital will celebrate this event, honoring former trauma patients and providing an opportunity to reconnect with the doctors, nurses, and paramedics who helped save their lives.

“Trauma doesn’t just affect one person, but ripples through families and communities,” said Future Johns, trauma program director at LBJ . “Reconnecting with trauma survivors brings both healing and a renewed passion to the healthcare teams who contributed to their recovery.”

Ben Taub received its first trauma designation in 1994, making it one of the first hospitals in the country to earn this honor from the American College of Surgeons.

According to the American College of Surgeons, verification site visits for hospitals participating in their Quality Verification Program occur approximately every three years and are conducted by an external peer review team.
