HOUSTON – Monday was no ordinary day on Mesa Road in East Houston. Something special took root—literally.
Neighbors, paintbrushes, flowers, and a whole lot of love came together at Bella Loli Garden Shop, where the East Houston Civic Club Economic Development Committee hosted its local business beautification project.

What began as a modest local garden shop is now a vibrant, welcoming little oasis thanks to the big hearts and hardworking hands of local volunteers.
Community members rolled up their sleeves and got to work. Murals were painted. Soil was tilled. Litter disappeared. Flower beds exploded with color. Every little touch—like a clean sidewalk or someone planting flowers by hand—showed how much people cared and wanted to make a difference in their community.
“East Houston Civic Club is full of resilience to make the community a better place to work, live, and gives hope to the underserved.” said by Abur ‘Abner’ Lyons, East Houston Civic Club economic development chairman. “We support Mayor John Whitmire’s vision to make all of Houston look the same—equally vibrant, cared for, and full of opportunity.”
This day was more than a makeover—it was a movement. The shop’s owner was moved by the outpouring of support from her neighbors and community.
Of course, no community project is complete without a little joy. Volunteers were treated to refreshments and shared plenty of smiles and high-fives as they worked side by side. What could have felt like work turned into a heartfelt neighborhood celebration.
