HOUSTON – On November 5, 2024, voters in Fort Bend County cast their ballots to determine who will hold the seat of County Commissioners Pct. 3.
All eyes are on this race following the 9 indictments of Taral Patel, the Democratic nominee for Fort Bend County Precinct 3 Commissioner. Patel is running against Republican incumbent, Andy Meyers, who has been a commissioner since 1997.
Patel was arrested and charged in June after an investigation revealed that he created fake social media accounts, posing as supporters of his political rivals. He’s accused of using these accounts to send himself and others racially charged and offensive messages in an attempt to gain sympathy from voters.
The charges stemmed from an investigation that prosecutors say revealed evidence that Patel created fake social media accounts.
The initial arrest came just weeks after Patel secured the Democratic nomination in the Pct. 3 commissioner race.
Houston Mayor John Whitmire announced on Facebook that he has withdrawn his support for Patel following the allegations.
Voters decided which candidate fills this position.
Polls were open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Election Day.
