Throughout the month of July, KPRC 2 and our partners at Energy Transfer, Houston Christian University and Exclusive Furniture are collecting items for BEAR (Be A Resource), an organization that helps provide necessities and comfort items for children in the Houston-area foster care system.
When Child Protective Services becomes involved in a child’s life, the child is often leaving a traumatic or troubled home or family situation with only the clothes they were wearing and the items they could grab. The BEAR Necessities room is a first stop for case workers to pick up new clothes, hygiene items, diapers and even comfort items like toys and blankets for a child in need.
BEAR also provides school supplies for children in foster care along with other programs to bring joy on birthdays, over the holidays and for special events like a child’s adoption day.
For those who want to contribute, here are some ways to do so:
- Shop BEAR’s Amazon wish list for back to school supplies. A wide variety of school supplies are needed. These items will ship directly to BEAR.
- Shop BEAR’s Amazon wish list for the BEAR Necessities Room. The most-needed items are new baby and teen hygiene items, duffle bags, baby bottles and bibs. These items will ship directly to BEAR.
- Make a financial donation to BEAR to help with the purchase of supplies.
- Volunteer! BEAR has volunteer opportunities on-site at their facility or you can organize a supply drive in your community.
