join ‘Houston Life’ for a behind-the-scenes look at the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo

HOUSTON – It’s that time again, y’all!

The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is back for its ninety-third year, and the “Houston Life” crew is on-site to get a closer look at this year’s activities.

Watch the full show in the player above.

This long-standing tradition has something new in store every year. Find out its history, milestones, and special days to make guests’ rodeo experience exciting.

Then something new is happening at AGVENTURE. Lauren Kelly will visit the popular attraction where you can learn all about agriculture. She’ll also venture into their new virtual reality experience, where visitors can try their hand at welding or ride in a chuck wagon game — with a chance to win fun prizes!

Don’t forget that half the fun at the Rodeo is dressing up in your Western best. Whether you’re looking for a new outfit to add to your closet or getting into the spirit for the first time, Mel Camp is helping you dress in style.

The rodeo is not all about the attractions. They also provide learning opportunities for kids and young adults. Students from all over the Lone Star State arrived at NRG Park to compete in the annual “miniscapes” landscaping competition hosted by the horticulture committee. Derrick Shore is meeting with competitors from Royal High School in Brookshire, about 40 miles west of Houston, to learn more about their hands-on horticulture program on campus.

Of course, you can’t leave the rodeo without trying the food and drinks. Tessa Barrera is tasting and sipping on some of the newest and most delicious items on the menu this year. Plus - she’ll experience something called a dirty soda that went viral on TikTok. How will that taste? Find out in the video.

Have you ever wondered what it takes to be a rider in the rodeo? Mel Camp is chatting with a bareback rider about his unique training regimen. See how he trains for eight wild seconds on the back of a bucking horse.

Then we’re ending the show with Bun B at Trill Burgers. Lauren Kelly finds out if he’s cooking up something brand new for this year’s rodeo.
