Melanie Camp

Houston Life Correspondent

Melanie Camp is a correspondent on KPRC 2’s Houston Life. She started in the media as a DJ at a small radio station in outback Australia. That’s right, Melanie comes from the land down under!

Radio led to TV, and Mel worked for several seasons as a correspondent on a lifestyle show in her hometown of Perth, Western Australia.

In high school, Mel loved acting and performed in school plays with the late and legendary Heath Ledger. After moving to Los Angeles in 2008, Mel picked up acting again and had a small role in that big vampire show called True Blood.

While living in Los Angeles, Mel was a reporter for a local Venice Beach newspaper called Yo! Venice. She would chase the LAPD helicopter, following its lantern through the Venice backstreets at three in the morning, hoping to get the story first.

In April 2020, Mel moved to Buffalo, New York to work as the co-host of AM Buffalo, a long-running lifestyle show on WKBW-TV.

In 2022, Mel moved to Houston to join the Houston Life team. She tetris-packed her car, squeezing in a large espresso machine and several salt lamps, and drove from Buffalo to Houston with her scruffy rescue dog, Stevie.

In her spare time, Mel loves to explore the Houston food scene and always makes time for a good coffee.

Mel just won her fifth Telly Award; this time, she took home the gold. She supports the National Domestic Violence Hotline, animal rescue groups, and jumps at any chance to empower youth through motivational talks.

Mel’s advice for aspiring journalists is this, “The way someone treats you says nothing about your worth - don’t take anything personally. Keep an open heart and the story will find you.”
