HOUSTON, Texas – Many people are still recovering after the holidays, from Thanksgiving to Christmas, along with inflation and the price of groceries -- and creating a budget is a hot topic of discussion currently on social media.

While many are looking into the idea of meal planning for the week, grocery prices can really put a dip into your pocket.

Some users on social media have found an alternative and convenient way to save money on groceries by using AI.

I mean, you can make your own grocery list and budget yourself -- but many people find themselves going over their budget or getting tired of the same old recipes.

TikToker @Libbybonthelable posted a video about how she uses ChatGPT to stick to her $100 grocery budget for two people for the week. She also asked ChatGPT to come up with recipes she can cook within that budget. She also told the AI system what food items she already had at home to incorporate those items in her meals.

If you have any food or dietary restrictions, ChatGPT will also create a meal plan and grocery list based on your requirements.

Now, for the recipes, Libby showed all of the meals she made for the week by following the directions of ChatGPT.

On Reddit, one user shared how they have been using ChatGPT to plan their meals and how it’s been life-changing as it has relieved them of a lot of stress.

So, we asked our Digital Content Specialist Ninfa Saavedra about how she uses ChatGPT to help her plan out her healthy meals for the week and she showed us how:

1.) First, download ChatGPT on your phone or computer if you don’t have it already. I know that most of us use it in our daily lives whether it’s to “professionally” respond to a work email or help us apply to a new job, but you can also use ChatGPT for far more.

2.) Secondly, get to typing. Give specific instructions... don’t worry, the more specific you are, the better. So for me, I’m on a very particular diet with a lot of restrictions. I wanted to stay within my budget, eat healthy and have a variety of options for breakfast lunch, and dinner. Here’s what I entered in the chat.

3. ) Thirdly, add which grocery store, and city and include if you want snacks, drinks, or anything specific like lentil beans or steak options.

4.) Fourth, don’t be afraid to ask ChatGPT to substitute some recipes or add more of something of your preference, after all, this is your grocery list or meal plan.
