Houston Zoo lights up holiday season with magic, animals and conservation. Plan your visit today.

HOUSTON – The “Houston Life” crew had a blast visiting the Houston Zoo for a special holiday episode all about Zoo Lights, presented by TXU Energy.

First up, they got to hang out with an animal ambassador and some cool reptile friends. Zookeeper Brian Stuckey introduced them to Onyx, a Texas rat snake, and shared what it’s like spending time with this slithery superstar.

Then, Mel Camp and Lauren Kelly caught up with the zoo’s event operations team to uncover the magic behind Zoo Lights. You’ll get to see how the zoo transforms from day to night into a sparkling wonderland. Families can enjoy this festive tradition from Nov. 21, 2025, through Jan. 4, 2026. Don’t miss out—grab your tickets now!.

If you love animal shows, you’ll be excited to know that “Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom Protecting the Wild” filmed an episode right here at the Houston Zoo. Derrick Shore takes you behind the scenes to meet the hosts and find out what brought them to town.

Ever wondered what it’s like inside a lion’s den? Tessa Barrera goes inside to prepare meals for these majestic cats, bears, and more, and explains how your donations help keep the zoo running smoothly.

Speaking of donations, every purchase you make at the zoo supports their important conservation work. Check out the special holiday merchandise, treats, and gifts perfect for animal lovers.

And there’s more! KPRC 2 is airing a primetime special about the Houston Zoo’s conservation efforts in Kenya. Mel Camp chats with Taylor Rhodes, the director of wildlife conservation, about their trip with Keith Garvin and how your support helps save lions in the wild.
