‘Eat Like a Local’ lassos up tasty bites at RodeoHouston

Before you head to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, you’ll want to catch this episode of “Eat Like a Local”! Host Chris Shepherd is diving into the delicious world of RodeoHouston, helping you find the best bites from the 120+ food vendors serving up everything from fried cheesecake to barbecue and bacon-wrapped, well, everything.

The Best Local Eats at RodeoHouston

From deep-fried indulgences to mouthwatering barbecue, here are some of the items you don’t want to miss. Watch the entire episode to see all of Chris’ picks.

  • Fried Cheesecake - Locally made cheesecake from Houston’s King’s Cheesecake is the secret to one of the best sweet items at the rodeo. At Sweet Cheeks, each slice including the graham cracker base is battered and deep-fried to golden perfection. It’s crispy on the outside, creamy on the inside and topped with powdered sugar.
  • Custom Corn Dogs - For decades, the McKinney family has used their family recipes to elevate common fair foods. That’s why their custom-made corn dogs have made Chris’ must-try list.
  • Bacon-Wrapped Everything – Because everything’s better with bacon, right? From bacon-wrapped turkey legs to bacon-wrapped pork belly (you know Chris had to try that one). the Janousek family from New Braunfels has perfected the world of bacon. Chris’ pick is the pork belly, but feel free to try anything on the menu!
  • Goode Company Barbecue: No trip to the Houston Rodeo is complete without barbecue, and few do it better than Goode Company Barbecue. Levi Goode shares why their legendary smoked meats and Texas-style dishes have been a staple at the rodeo for 37 years. A sleeper (until you’ve tried it!) is their pecan pie, which is a perfect balance of rich, buttery filling and a crisp, flaky crust.
