Rise and dine at exceptional Houston breakfast restaurants

Bacon and eggs are great, but breakfast can be so much more! This week on “Eat Like a Local”, host Chris Shepherd is on a mission to find unforgettable early morning dishes.

In Houston, you can’t talk about breakfast without mentioning The Breakfast Klub. Located in Midtown, this iconic eatery has been serving up its famous twists on breakfast since 2001.

The Breakfast Klub

3711 Travis | Houston, TX

Chris sat down with owner Marcus Davis to find out how he turned two not-breakfast dishes -- ‘Wings & Waffle’ and ‘Katfish & Grits’ -- into a national craze. The wings are crispy, seasoned to perfection, and paired with a fluffy Belgian waffle; while the Katfish & Grits pairs two Southern favorites that weren’t previously common on a breakfast table.

Davis explained how educating the public on his breakfast vision was at first an uphill battle, but today it’s a must for locals as well as anyone coming to visit the city. And the line? We know you’ve seen it. Don’t worry it moves quickly. In this episode, Davis shares a few insider tricks to skipping it all together.

Since the Platsas family took it over in 1993, they’ve turned it from a classic cafeteria-style restaurant to a global breakfast and brunch destination. Drawing from their family’s multicultural heritage, the Platsas are serving up dishes like baklava french toast, gyro omelets and a breakfast churassco platter.

That’s not all, they’ve also added a bar so you can order up classic brunch cocktails like mimosas or try something new like the barraquito – a beautifully layered coffee cocktail made with coffee, condensed milk, Licor 43, and lemon.
