HOUSTON – The U.S. Border Patrol arrested a man charged with capital murder after being tied to the fatal shooting of one woman and sexual assault of another in September, according to the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office. The U.S. Marshal’s Office and Mexican authorities joined the search for Jose Marin Soriano, 59, after he reportedly crossed the border into Mexico shortly after the incident, according to the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office. What happenedThese incidents occurred on County Road 3415 at County Road 3425 around 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 19. When deputies arrived at the scene, they found a woman dead inside a burned vehicle across the road from the residence. When the two women arrived at Soriano’s home, deputies said he pulled a gun and sexually assaulted the woman chained to the bed.

At least 13,000 unaccompanied children had been removed from the country under the order, the ACLU said in a statement. Before the order, children who turned themselves in to Border Patrol after crossing the border were processed by federal agents and then put in the custody of the Office of Refugee Resettlement. HOUSTON – As the year comes to a close, the number of immigrants crossing the border from Mexico into Texas illegally is dropping. “The amount of traffic that we’re encountering here daily has gone down significantly,” said U.S. Border Patrol Agent Herman Rivera. The crisis peaked in May when more than 140,000 people were caught crossing the border or deemed “inadmissible.” But by the end of November, that number dropped to just over 42,000. Rivera believes all of this is why there’s been a decrease in families crossing the border and why those caught crossing, don’t simply surrender like they did earlier this year. “They’re running because they know if they get caught they’re going to get sent back to their country,” Rivera said.
