Harris County Sheriffs Office launches new program aimed to better interactions with people with autism
HOUSTON The Harris County Sheriffs Office has launched a new program with the goal of improving the departments interaction with people with autism. The Project Guardian program will help engage families with loved ones with autism and provide deputies with information about the person with autism, including whether they may have any special needs deputies should know about when encountering them during a call of service. We continuously work with the community to ensure we are doing all we can to best serve our residents with compassion and understanding, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said. Harris County Sheriffs deputy charged with felony sexual assault in alleged March incident, officials say
HOUSTON A Harris County Sheriffs deputy was charged with sexual assault after a woman reported that a uniformed deputy assault her in March, according to the Harris County Sheriffs Office. Deputy Kenneth Reed, 45, was charged with felony sexual assault Monday after a woman reported on March 18 that a uniformed deputy sexually assaulted her with his hands near the 157000 block of Bammel Village Drive. The woman told investigators that she had driven there with plans to take a walk with her young daughter, officials wrote in a release. Now that criminal charges have been accepted, an Internal Affairs review will be conducted and its findings will be presented to the Sheriffs Administrative Disciplinary Committee. Spencer told KPRC 2 that HCSO will release Reeds mugshot once he is booked into Harris County Jail.

Sheriff Ed Gonzalez supports reform, calls defunding law enforcment short sighted
On Tuesday, Gonzalez shared a thread of tweets on his stance on reform and defunding law enforcement agencies around the country. Im moving forward with a number of significant policy revisions, Gonzalez wrote. We prohibit the use of chokeholds, but were going to make it even more clear in policy, Gonzalez said. The time to act is now.Gonzalez said he will continue to lobby for better pay for law enforcement officers in order to attract the best qualified people to the profession. We must build momentum toward a more effective, equitable and thoughtful approach to law enforcement, Gonzalez said.
