New KFC to open in Alton on Tuesday
A new Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant is opening in Alton on Tuesday, and the first 50 customers will receive a โFree Chicken for a Yearโ gift card during a giveaway that day, the eatery said in a media release. The grand opening will be held at 10:30 a.m., at 203 W. The space expanded from 2,600 square feet to 4,100 square feet, with the capacity to seat 100 patrons indoors, 20 at the expanded bar, and 80 outside at the patio, which will be open year-round equipped with heaters and fans. Hours and service will remain the same, including to-go orders and curbside pickup, the release said. Community shows support for Houston restaurant after it was site of anti-mask protest
HOUSTON โ A beloved Garden Oaks restaurant got an outpouring of support Monday after it was ambushed over the weekend by a group protesting the mask ordinance. Video posted to YouTube shows several people carrying Trump flags and American flags marching in front of the restaurant chanting โBoycott Millerโsโ. Weโve never taken a political stance here, we sell hamburgers,โ said owner Jessica Beer, who now runs her familyโs 41-year-old restaurant business. Surveillance video from inside the restaurant shows two members of the group go inside without masks on. Gremillion told them they needed to have a mask on and if they didnโt have one the restaurant could provide one.
Popular Italian restaurant in Webster-area closing after 50 years in business
HOUSTON โ Francaโs Real Italian Restaurant in the 1100 block of East NASA Parkway in the Webster area is closing its doors after 50 years, the owner announced on social media Thursday. According to its website, the restaurant opened in 1971 and was the only restaurant in the South Houston area for miles. The restaurant was a family affair for years with the design of the interiors, from murals to sculptures, all done by the patriarch โPapaโ Franco. Franca, the youngest daughter, eventually took over the business and is closing it now. The statement reads, โAfter 50 years of business in the Bay Area and with the changing times, I have made the difficult decision to not reopen Francaโs Real Italian Restaurant and Dinner Theatre.

Nigerian restaurant Jollof Rice King opens doors on Richmond
HOUSTON โ Husband-and-wife team Tiffaney and Avo Owadale finally opened their new restaurant on Richmond Avenue on Oct. 13, bringing Nigerian foods to Houston. According to their website, the chefs at Jollof Rice King strive to perfect the dish with West African flair. Jollof Rice Kingโs menu has a variety of small rice plates served with plantains and moi moi, a Nigerian bean pudding cake. Co-owner Tiffaney Owadale told Eater Houston she is excited to bring something new to Houstonโs dining scene. Jollof Rice King is open for takeout only at 3833 Richmond Avenue.

HOUSTON โ A โwildly popularโ Korean-style fried chicken restaurant is making its way to Westheimer, Eater Houston reported. BB.Q Chicken, based in Austin, is famous for their spicy items such as Soy-Grilled Chicken, Spicy Spicy Vampire Chicken and Gangnam Style Wings. Other popular menu items include the โCupbobโ which is a bulgogi and short rib bibimbap (beef, rib and rice) bowl, according to their Facebook page. The new BB.Q Chicken location will replace the now-shuttered Texadelphia restaurant at 8383 Westheimer Suite 114, between Fondren and Hillcroft. The chain plans to open more than 55,000 locations across the globe, including the one on Westheimer, according to Eater Houston.
Killens southern comfort food restaurant opens in the Heights
Houston restauranteur Ronnie Killen opened his first Killens concept in the loop Wednesday. Adding to his concept, which includes Killens BBQ, Killens Burgers, Killens Steakhouse, and more, Killens offers a menu of southern comfort food. According to Houston Culture Map, the new restaurants menu includes fried chicken, fried seafood, barbecue plates, and unique items such as fried green tomatoes, smothered pork chops, and chicken and dumplings, and more. The restaurants homey interior was designed to show admiration to Killens grandmother, Millie Simecek, who he says is a major source of his love for food and cooking, according to Houston Culture Map. In compliance with CDC recommendations, Killens is now serving guests for dine-in at 101 Heights Blvd., Houston, Texas.

HOUSTON Houston chef Ryan LaChaine has opened a pop-up shop called Louies inside popular Riel Restaurant in Montrose, Eater Houston reported. The new take-out lunch concept inside the popular Canadian restaurant features classic sandwiches, sliders, salads, sides and dessert, according to Riels Facebook page. Foodies can enjoy a chicken Caprese sandwich, crawfish Rolls, and Canadian favorite poutine. Desserts include sticky toffee pudding and the Nanaimo Bar, made with chocolate, coconut custard and almond. Federal judge rules Club Onyx may only operate as restaurant without โentertainersโ
HOUSTON โ A federal judge ruled Friday that Club Onyx Houston can only operate as a restaurant without adult entertainment, even if they were fully clothed, according to court documents. This decision represents the latest legal decision between Trump Inc., the company that operates the club, and the city of Houston. Greg Abbot clarified Tuesday that sexually oriented businesses may only offer restaurant services and prohibited from providing any other services, according to court documents. Since Onyx Houston operates as a โsexually oriented business, they are prohibited from offering both restaurant services and entertaining, even if the entertainers are fully clothed,โ U.S. District Judge Vanessa Gilmore wrote in the order Friday. The suit also named โ the Houston Police Department, the Houston Fire Department, and unnamed police officers and fire department officers โ as co-defendants, according to court documents.

Pop-up drive-in theater a lifeline for families, restaurant in Spring
SPRING โ When the owners of Butler House in Spring transformed the parking lot next door into a drive-in movie theater, they had โno ideaโ if anyone would show up. โI couldnโt wait to come,โ Dan Mitchel said from the bed of his truck, sitting alongside his wife and two daughters. The Frenchaks posted an invitation to the pop-up theater on Facebook, and the response was overwhelming. Butler House will show two movies per night for at least the next week, the Frechaks said. Many who attended the Butler House movie night said they could not remember the last time they visited a drive-theater.
Harris County restaurant defying orders to shut down dine-in service
Texas Borders Bar and Grill located off the Katy Freeway seemed not to be in compliance with Hidalgoโs county-wide order issued on Monday. Per the order, bars and clubs in Harris County should shut down and restaurants are only permitted to offer drive-thru service, delivery and/or curbside pickup options. According to former Texas Borders Bar and Grill employee Tara Marrocelli, the bar was open as usual. According to Garcia, Texas Roadhouse will now operate all 13 Houston locations with curb-side and drive-thru services only. Fort Bend County Judge KP George issued a similar order to the Harris County guidelines on Tuesday evening.
