HOUSTON โ H-E-B is going above and beyond to make sure Texans have food on their table by donating $1 million to food banks across Texas. According to a news release, working directly with food banks affiliated with Feeding Texas, H-E-Bโs donation will support 18 food banks throughout the state. So far, the Texas grocery chain has donated 23 truckloads of food and $100,000 in Meal Simple meals to food banks, per the release. H-E-B also responded to the ongoing water crisis in Texas by partnering with Zen Water and Florida-based Publix, who each donated 10 truckloads of water to Texas food banks this week. HISD cancels school through Tuesday due to winter storm impacts

HOUSTON โ The Houston Food Bank is the newest, non-traditional voting location as the Harris County Clerkโs Office works to expand voting accessibility in what could be the highest turnout election in history. When Jimโs Supermarket burned down on Friday, Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee said she knew it would hurt families here. Houston Food Bank welcomes volunteers at warehouse facility on cityโs northside
HOUSTON โ The Houston Food Bank has rented an additional warehouse facility on the cityโs northside. The new warehouse is expected to help alleviate the stress and demand on the main warehouse and dock area at the Food Bankโs I-10 and Gellhorn location, now referred to as the East Branch. The additional warehouse at 146 Knobcrest, which Houston Food Bank is referring to as North Branch, is a 128,000 square-foot facility that will handle all types of products (dry, refrigerated, frozen and items specific for disaster response). The Food Bank will primarily be operating mobile distributions and home deliveries from this location. Individuals and small group volunteers (up to 10 people) opportunities are available.

HOUSTON Most of the Houston Independent School Districts 42 summer curbside meal sites will be temporarily closing Friday due to the increase of coronavirus cases in the Houston area, according to the school district. Only five sites that work in partnership with the Houston Food Bank will remain open. All (sites) will then undergo deep cleaning and sanitization as a precautionary measure before re-opening on Monday, July 20, officials wrote. Five locations offering both Curbside Summer Meals and the Houston Food Banks Coronavirus Food Assistance Program, which provides families with 30-pound boxes of produce, will remain open, the district said. Houston Food Bank and Catholic Charities open superfood distribution site in Richmond
RICHMOND, Texas โ The Houston Food Bank and Catholic Charities are collaborating to bring a superfood distribution site to Richmond capable of feeding 1,500 families. The partnership kicked off Tuesday morning at Catholic Charitiesโ Mamie George Community Center (MGCC), which will host large-scale food distribution to hundreds of area low-income residents who are struggling, even more, to keep food on the table during the COVID-19 pandemic. MGCC is located in the zip code with the greatest need according to Catholic Charities. Food distribution runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Families must register in advance through the Houston Food Bankโs system by texting 94502 with the letters HFBNSS as the message.
Houston Restaurant Weeks is back! Here is what you need to know
HOUSTON Cleverly Stone, the founder of Houston Restaurant Weeks passed away this year following her battle with cancer, but her last wish was that the charitable tradition continues in perpetuity in her name. The coronavirus pandemic hit people hard and the importance of the local restaurant industry and the Houston Food Bank were highlighted in a big way. Stone knew HRW would be vital to both in 2020, which is why she wanted the fundraiser to continue. HRW also partners with the Montgomery and Galveston county food banks and donations from participating restaurants in those counties will go to the respective food bank. According to the release, HRW will release the names and menus of the participating restaurants on the website in July.
6 summer meal sites, all Fresh Bus delivery stops canceled after HISD employee tests positive for COVID-19
HOUSTON โ Six curbside summer meal sites and all Fresh Bus produce delivery stops have been canceled after a Houston ISD employee tested positive for COVID-19, according to the district. Houston ISD said the six summer meal sites that are closed Thursday include Bastian, Foster, Shearn, Thompson, Whidby and R. P. Harris elementary schools. All other scheduled summer meal sites will remain open, the district said. The district said health officials do not believe families participating in the curbside summer meals and Fresh Bus produce delivery programs were exposed. During the temporary closure, families in need are encouraged to visit one of HISDโs 65 other curbside summer meals sites scheduled to be open on Thursday.

HOUSTON Team Rubicon, a veteran-led global disaster response organization, has teamed up with the Houston Food Bank to feed the hungry. He has picked up and dropped off about 600 pre-packaged meals on behalf of the food bank. Ventura said the meals from the Houston Food Bank were donated to Harmony House, a facility for homeless working men. HISD Announces Summer Curbside Food Service For Students
Houston ISD, which has been working for weeks in partnership with the Houston Food Bank distributing food at different school sites throughout the district, is about to embark on its own curbside summer meals programs starting June 1 with some adjustments made for the coronavirus. Pickup will be available twice a week on Mondays and Thursdays. Children don't have to be there but whoever is picking up the food must show proof of enrollment in any school district with a report card or student ID or with a birth certificate. Houston's Seniors Get Help Feeding Their Pets Amid COVID-19 Concerns
Geraldine and Daisy, the car, with some pet frood help from the Houston Food Bank , the Houston SPCA and Hill's Pet Nutrition. In partnership with the Houston SPCA and Hill's Pet Nutrition, the Houston Food Bank has been delivering dog and cat food to vulnerable seniors involved in its Senior Box Program during the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition to pet food, the combined effort from the three groups is helping out with dog leashes, collars and pet beds. Thursday night shows from late March to early May were scheduled to bring diverse music acts and Houston music fans to Avenida Houston. Houston First is teaming with KHOU 11 to present the Party on the Plaza Virtual Benefit Concert. The concert will benefit Houston Food Bank. According to press materials, the countrys largest food bank in distribution is working at a 150 percent distribution currently. After cancelling its own food distribution on March 26, the Houston ISD just announced it is getting back into the game, starting Monday, April 6. The first effort operated in partnership with the Houston Food Bank, was very successful but concerns about possible community spread arose among workers and the students and their families showing up. HISD Nutrition Services will continue to work with the Houston Food Bank for the initiative and use the Hexser T. Holliday Food Services Support Facility as the central hub for this initiative. Hope Center Houston, which meets the needs of homeless individuals, is another nonprofit addressing food insecurity in Spring and Klein. All three districts operate similar programs to combat food insecurity.
