Southmore Bridge re-opens to traffic
Photos of the Southmore Boulevard Bridge that spans Highway 288 showed traffic was moving across it again Tuesday. The Southmore Bridge isnโt the only one causing traffic trouble for Third Ward residents. The Harris County Flood Control District has been working for more than a year on the Ardmore Street Bridge that connects North MacGregor and South MacGregor, about one mile east of the Southmore bridge. Unfortunately, the work performed on the bridge did not meet Harris County Flood Control District specifications during a routine inspection.โโWe encountered some deficient items in the concrete bridge deck. Hayden said remedial repairs are now underway on the Ardmore bridge that could be complete before the end of the New Year.
Highway 288 reopens both ways after being flooded
HOUSTON โ Highway 288 has reopened Wednesday morning after being flooded. Officials said the northbound and southbound lanes are now open after being closed due to flooding from Beta conditions. Several cars were stranded after high water took over the highway. The highwayโs closure was one of the major closures Tuesday.
HPD: Man crossing 610 South Loop hit and killed
A man was struck by a car and killed while crossing 610 South Loop Sunday night, according to Houston police. The accident happened around 9:14 p.m. Sunday on 610 South Loop near Highway 288, near Almeda. Houston police said the man walked across the eastbound lanes of 610 South Loop was hit and killed. Several lanes in the area are blocked.
Plan ahead! Nightly road closures expected on Beltway 8, Highway 288
HOUSTON โ Drivers are advised to plan their commutes ahead of time as several roads are expected to close this week for construction. There will be a closure on the south Sam Houston Tollway that will affect to and from Highway 288, according to the Harris County Toll Road Authority. The closures will affect the following ramps:Two eastbound left lanes between 288 exit ramp and the eastbound 288 entrance rampThe Kirby entrance ramp will also be closedThe closure will begin Monday at 10 p.m. to Wednesday at 5 a.m. Drivers are encouraged to take all possible reroutes.
Rosharon will soon have a new crystal-clear lagoon
HOUSTON โ Houstonians will have a new crystal-clear lagoon to enjoy in 2021. The four-acre crystal-clear lagoon will be built in the Sierra Vista community along the Highway 288 corridor. It will span 29 acres of amenities, including a celebration lawn, a restaurant, and a splash pad for kids. This will be the third lagoon built by community builder Land Tejas. Another lagoon is set to open in later this year in the Lago Mar community in Texas City.
New search underway for missing woman's body in Brazoria County
BRAZORIA COUNTY, Texas โ Investigators were back out searching Tuesday for the body of a missing woman in Brazoria County. They are digging just north of Angleton, in a field off Highway 288 near County Road 49. Investigators used back hoes and bulldozers Monday to search a lonely field near Highway 288 and FM 1462. But now Reece, serving 60 years for aggravated kidnapping in Harris county, is talking. Cox's mother, Jan Bynum, said it's the first real break in the case since her daughter disappeared.
