17-year-old missing at Texas City Dike

The teen was on an inflatable raft with his brother early this morning when it began to take on water.

TEXAS CITY, Tx – According to Texas City Emergency Management Coordinator Joe Tumbleson, Nathan Lowery and his 16-year-old brother set off in the raft about three miles out on the jetty.

Around 5:30 a.m. the boys jumped or fell off the raft.

A Texas City Fire Department Marine Unit rescued the 16-year-old but could not find the 17-year-old.

Units with the US Coast Guard, Galveston Police Marine Division, Texas Parks and Wildlife, and Texas EquuSearch spent the entire day searching but did not locate the missing teen.

A Coast Guard flight crew spotted the raft about 15 miles from the Dike in Trinity Bay.

Crews suspended the search at 6:15 p.m.

Recovery efforts will resume at first light on Sunday morning.
