Conroe ISD passes resolution honoring Charlie Kirk, calls for civil debate

Citing rising tensions in public discourse, Conroe ISD trustees on Nov. 18 passed a resolution honoring slain podcaster and activist Charlie Kirk and urging the community to reject political violence.

Kirk, the conservative political activist who founded Turning Point USA, was killed on Sept. 10 during a public student debate at a university event in Utah.

The resolution, adopted shortly after the board meeting began, extends condolences to Kirk’s wife and two children and describes the shooting as a “heinous act of violence.”

The board recognized what it described as Kirk’s leadership and public advocacy work.

The board also praised Kirk’s efforts to involve students in public debate and encourage critical thinking. The resolution calls on the Conroe ISD community to reject political violence, regardless of ideology, and to model civil discourse for students.

The man suspected of assassinating Kirk, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, is currently awaiting trial.

KPRC has reached out to Conroe ISD for further comment.
