HOUSTON, Texas – BakerRipley is offering food fairs at its various campuses across Houston in November as the government shutdown continues to impact Houstonians who depend on SNAP benefits and other nutrition assistance programs.
BakerRipley has joined forces with the Houston Food Bank to host a series of seven free food giveaways throughout November.
Migdalia Nunez, a former Houston Food Bank recipient, celebrates one of her greatest talents, baking and decorating a birthday cake for her family.
But for Migdalia, it wasn’t always easy to put food on the table for her three children. She remembers visiting local food fairs organized by BakerRipley to help feed her family.
“Sometimes onions, potatoes, carrots, and sometimes milk and eggs,” Migdalia recalls. “For me, it’s a lot of help. I enjoy it, yes.”
Now, as many families face the threat of reduced SNAP benefits, BakerRipley and the Houston Food Bank are expanding their efforts to ensure no one goes hungry.

“Our food fairs start at 10 a.m., and they run through whenever we are done with our food,” BikerRipley said.
No registration is required; just show up, get in line, and bring a box to carry your food home.
Migdalia, once a recipient, will now be volunteering to help distribute food during this campaign.
“Oh, I cry, I feel so good when I’m helping people. I feel good,” she says. You got the help, now you’re giving it. That’s the way it is,” Migdalia laughs.
