Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant hospitalized after patrol vehicle rear-ended

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas – The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office says a Sergeant with the agency is in the hospital recovering after his vehicle was rear-ended while he was responding to a stalled vehicle.

It happened on Highway 249 Tuesday morning. Deputy’s had responded to a stalled vehicle in the main lanes of the highway.

While deputies were working, a distracted driver rear-ended the Sergeant’s marked patrol vehicle. The sheriff’s office said the vehicle’s emergency lights were on and activated at the time.

The Sergeant was inside the vehicle when it was hit. Both the Sergeant and the driver of the other vehicle were transported to the hospital.

The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the incident.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with our Sergeant and his family. This incident serves as a powerful reminder of the dangers our deputies face daily while serving the public. Please remember to slow down and move over when you see law enforcement vehicles on the side of the road or responding to and investigating traffic-related incidents - it saves lives," said Montgomery County Sheriff Wesley Doolittle.
