LEAGUE CITY, Texas – The 2024-25 athletics year is wrapping up soon as soon let out for summer break. Before the student-athletes go on hiatus, some programs are still chasing championship dreams.
The UIL Softball road to state continues, and still in the mix are the Chargers from Clear Springs high school.
Head Coach Jennifer Knight’s program has put together a remarkable postseason run that includes a regional semifinal win over state powerhouse Katy.
Clear Springs then followed that up by taking down a great Atascocita team in a best-of-three series to punch their ticket to the Class 6A semifinal, where they will face off against San Antonio East Central.
“We have a bunch of players who put the team first,” Coach Knight told KPRC 2 Sports recently. “We have the talent here and go into each game or series believing we can win and advance.”
Clear Springs has done just that with a core group of seniors and a standout freshman in Makenzie Thomas, who has stepped in right away and played a big role in Clear Springs’ success.
“I just want to come in here and have focused on doing my best and playing for this senior group,” said Thomas.
Thomas, who is the Chargers starting shortstop, has delivered defensively but also with her bat, where she’s belted 15 home runs this season along with 42 RBI while scoring 43 runs. Thomas is also slugging at a .969 rate.
While just starting her high school career and wrapping up her freshman campaign, Makenzie Thomas is our UTMB Health Athlete of the Week!
