According to the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement, Daryn Edwards, 59, has had extensive police training dating back to 1992. His personal status report shows he completed more than 6,600 hours of course training including 60 hours of child abuse prevention and investigation at the intermediate level.
Before his arrest, Edwards was the captain of HPD’s Auto Theft Division but he has since been relieved of his duties, pending the outcome of an Internal Affairs investigation.
Since his arrest, the 32-year veteran with HPD has had two additional charges placed on him for aggravated sexual assault and sexual performance of a child. His bond has been denied on both charges.
These all paint a starkly different picture of Edwards compared to a 2021 performance review where he received “strong” and “outstanding” reviews.
His supervisor describes his strengths as “loyal to the department and continues to set examples for his people” and “seeks ways to improve the operations within his division through emphasizing a more protective approach in dealing with serial offenders.”
Edwards is expected to appear before a district court judge sometime next week in League City.
