It happened on the Katy Freeway toward Greenhouse going westbound just after midnight when investigators said the driver was speeding and had their hazards on. At some point, the driver’s SUV left the roadway before hitting a barrier and crashed into the back of an 18-wheeler.

The 18-wheeler driver was not injured, but the SUV driver died from their injuries. No other vehicles were involved, police confirmed.

Investigators are trying to figure out exactly what led up to the crash, but believe speed was one of the factors and shut down the Katy Freeway while they work to get the 18-wheeler back up and running and clean up the wreckage.
