4 teens arrested following police chase in SW Houston; 1 at large after carjacking security guard

Four teenagers are in custody after a wild police pursuit ended with a crash near the Southwest Freeway in Houston.

According to Houston Police Department sources, the suspects were in a vehicle and reportedly fired at least one gunshot into the air along the 6400 block of Richmond Ave.

Police believe all of the suspects are between 15 and 16 years old.

The group is also believed to be involved in more random shootings near Wisdom High School over the last two days. HPD sources say a 16-year-old boy was hit by shrapnel during one of these shootings.

Officers quickly identified the involved vehicle, a black pickup truck, and a chase ensued that led the vehicle near Gulfton Street.

The pursuit caused the truck to lose control and slam into a fence. At that point, four suspects hopped out of the vehicle, and three of them were quickly apprehended and taken into custody.

Police say the fourth suspect began wrestling with an officer attempting to arrest him. A nearby security guard pulled his car over and tried to help the officer, but the suspect hopped inside of the guard’s vehicle and sped off. The guard’s car was later found abandoned in the parking lot of an apartment complex.

As all this commotion unfolded, a fifth suspect—who had hidden underneath the seat in the wrecked pickup truck—attempted to make a run for it as all the officers were occupied. He ran into the playground area of a nearby church, but he was quickly found and taken into custody.

HPD officials say they recovered two AR-style pistols and two regular pistols in the possession of the suspects.

Four of the suspects are in custody, while the carjacker remains at large.
