HOUSTON – Crooks cracked into 25 storage units inside of a Public Storage in Houston’s Galleria area.
One of the victims is Fresh Spirit Wellness, a domestic violence advocate group.
The group’s leader, Dr. Conte Terrell, learned about the break-in on Thursday after a call from the manager at the storage facility.
According to Terrell, the manager shared that someone or a group of people broke into the units early Thursday morning.
“He said, ‘I just want you to know that there’s been a break in, and we’ve been vandalized heavily at this location and 25 units were affected, and your unit is one,’” Terrell explained. “It’s very disheartening.”
Inside the storage unit, the thieves took out toys for children of domestic violence situations, electronics and even prizes that the group uses at their annual gala.
Gage Goulding: “What was the total value in everything that was lost here?”
Dr. Conte Terrell: “So far, at least $10,000.”
That’s just one of the 25 units that was broken into.
“I feel very violated. I just this was not the call that I was expecting when we put those things here,” she said. “We just naturally thought they would be safe here.”
The facility does have security cameras. However, Terrell says the video the manager showed her isn’t very descriptive and only shows what she describes as two “suspicious” men.
Fresh Spirit Wellness provides Christmas presents to children of domestic violence situations. They are now looking to replace what was taken from them.
