Houston wig shop murder examined in new episode of The Evidence Room: ‘He’s a killer. He’s going to kill’

HOUSTON – Dror Goldberg, a 19-year-old Bellaire High School graduate, was young, handsome, and privileged. That much people knew.

He was also dark - the depths of which weren’t widely realized until Nov. 27, 1998, when he walked into Wigs by Andre in Weslayan Plaza and attacked the three people inside.

The gruesome crime stunned the community.

Manuela Silverio, a single mom who’d dedicated much of her work to helping cancer patients suffering from hair loss, died instantly - her throat slashed. Her husband and the shop’s owner were badly injured but survived.

Now, more than 25 years later, KPRC 2 Investigates examines one of the most notorious crimes in Houston’s history in an all-new episode of ‘The Evidence Room.’

“It wasn’t just something a kid’s writing down. He’s telling you how he’s doing it,” said former Houston ISD police officer Susie Pendergrass. “And here I am, a brand-new rookie, saying I’ll make a copy of that. If it goes in the evidence room and crumbles after years - oh well. But he’s a killer. He’s going to kill.”

From decades-old crime scene photos to the red flags that could have stopped him, don’t miss ‘The Wig Shop Murder’ premiering tonight at 6:30 p.m. exclusively on the KPRC 2+ livestream.

‘The Evidence Room’ is now in its fifth season.

The original true crime docuseries produced by KPRC 2 Investigates received national honors from the 44th Annual Telly Awards in 2023. The Telly Awards honors “innovative, inclusive, and disruptive work that breaks through the static.”

“The level of true crime filmmaking is unmatched in this series. It is on the level of classics like Cold Case Files and Forensic Files, as it is made with real access to investigators/evidence and with unseen video/photos from the crimes and trials.”
