Only the brave make it through this haunted cornfield near Katy

HOUSTON – When the sun goes down at Dewberry Farm, things get a little… BOOriffic! One minute, I was walking past glowing pumpkin lanterns, snapping photos with movie characters from Beetlejuice and a giant Freddy Krueger hand, feeling very much in the Halloween spirit. The next minute, I was sprinting through a haunted barn, wondering why I hadn’t worn faster shoes.

Just outside Katy, in Brookshire, Dewberry Farm turns into a full-on Halloween playground this time of year - and I couldn’t resist checking out what they call BOOriffic Nights. It’s the perfect mix of family fun and pure fright, depending on how brave you are.

👻 The Fun Before the Fear

I started off easy, strolling through the Pumpkin Stroll, a glowing path lined with themed lanterns - princesses, movie villains, and just enough spooky sparkle to fill your camera roll. There were families everywhere, kids dressed up as superheroes, and couples taking cozy fall photos among the pumpkins. It felt festive and magical… until I got curious.

That’s when I found out Dewberry Farm doesn’t stop at cute pumpkins and fairy lights.

🌽 Enter the Cornfield…

Let’s talk about Spooky Acres, a haunted cornfield that feels straight out of Children of the Corn. Even before the first scare, I was already jumpy - something about being surrounded by tall, rustling stalks at night will do that to you. Add in a few wandering ghouls, creepy laughter, and some perfectly timed surprises, and let’s just say my microphone wasn’t the only thing picking up screams.

💀 Fifteen Acres of Fear

Just when I thought I’d survived the scariest part, I learned about the Trail of Terror - a haunted outdoor maze that takes over fifteen acres at the back of the farm. It’s like a haunted house, only without walls… which means the monsters can come from anywhere.

Fog rolled in. Lights flickered. And somewhere in the distance, a clown laughed. Mackenzie Mauney from Dewberry Farm assured me I’d “love it.” I wasn’t so sure.

But here’s the thing: it was terrifying and totally fun. Between the jump scares, I couldn’t stop laughing. The energy of the actors, the detail in every set, and the pure adrenaline made it an experience I won’t forget - even if I did leave a few screams echoing in the woods.

🎃 Why You’ve Gotta Go

Whether you’re in it for the pumpkin selfies, the trick-or-treat rooms, or the full-blown fright fest, BOOriffic Nights at Dewberry Farm is one of the most entertaining ways to celebrate spooky season in the Houston area.

Just a tip: bring your friends, wear comfy shoes, and keep your eyes peeled - because when the lights go out on the farm, you never know who (or what) might be waiting around the corner.
