HOUSTON – The 76th Pasadena Livestock Show and Rodeo is breaking records this year, with crowds turning out in bigger numbers than ever before. From the roar of the arena to the family-friendly fun across the fairgrounds, this hometown tradition is proving why it’s been a staple for more than seven decades.
Behind the Chutes
Houston Life reporter Melanie Camp strapped on her boots and went inside the arena to see the rodeo from a whole new perspective. Trick rider Haley Proctor offered a peek at the skills and precision behind her daring routines, showing how much athleticism — and trust between horse and rider — goes into every performance.
But the action wasn’t all about flash and flair. Melanie also met the bullfighter, the rodeo clown, and the announcer — the team that works together to keep bull riders safe when things get unpredictable. It may look like fun and games from the stands, but behind the scenes, it’s a carefully coordinated dance of strategy and split-second decisions.
Fun for the Whole Family
Beyond the arena, the petting zoo has become a favorite stop for families. Kids — and plenty of grown-ups — have the chance to feed the animals and learn about how livestock helped shape America’s history. It’s a hands-on experience that blends fun with education, giving visitors a taste of the country’s agricultural roots.
Giving Back to the Community
The Pasadena Livestock Show and Rodeo is about more than entertainment. Each year, it raises hundreds of thousands of dollars in scholarship funds for local students, helping the next generation pursue education while keeping agricultural traditions alive.
A Tradition Worth Keeping
As the crowds continue to pour in through September 27, the Pasadena Rodeo remains a reminder of what community, tradition, and a little Texas grit can bring to the table — or in this case, the arena.
