Houston – Houston native Abby Govindan is making waves on the comedy stage with a fresh and relatable voice. The daughter of Indian immigrants, Govindan first went viral online and has since toured the world, performed Off-Broadway, and built a reputation as one of stand-up’s rising stars.
Her new show, Pushing 30, hits The Secret Group tonight. The set dives into everything from cultural clashes with her immigrant parents to mental health and the rollercoaster of dating while building a comedy career. But as Govindan explains, the stories never come at her family’s expense; she’s proud to highlight her roots while finding the humor in the complexities of identity.
For her, bringing this new chapter of jokes to Houston audiences is especially meaningful: “I’m really excited for the audience to see these new jokes on my home turf. And I’m really excited for the way that this show will progress.”
Pushing 30 takes the stage tonight at The Secret Group. Doors open at 7 p.m.
