Helping Houston-area students get to college: The Linda Lorelle Scholarship Fund celebrates 35 years

HOUSTON – Former anchor Linda Lorelle spent 17 years at the KPRC 2 News desk. The Emmy and Image award-winning journalist has a passion for telling stories in our community; she also cares deeply about giving back.

35 years ago Linda and her husband, Lou Gregory, created the Linda Lorelle Scholarship Fund with the aim of helping young people get the education they deserve.

“We can’t choose the circumstances that we’re born into; life happens. You might be born into a family that has had a lot of challenges,” said Lorelle about why the scholarships are awarded to underserved communities.

“My husband, Lou Gregory, and I decided to help students that might be overlooked by other scholarship funds,” Lorelle added.

To date, the Linda Lorelle Scholarship Fund has awarded almost $5 million dollars to nearly 400 students. Lorelle believes having access to education can improve the trajectory of recipients’ lives and impact future generations.

The Linda Lorelle Scholarship Fund is hosting their gala on Sunday, September 7th at the Omni Riverway.
