Houston – When there’s an emergency, every second matters. Knowing what to do could save a life. Whether it’s someone collapsing suddenly, choking at the dinner table, or suffering a minor injury at home, it’s often friends, family, or bystanders who step in first. That’s why the CPR and Safety Lady Gail Gould says it’s so important for everyday people to learn the basics of lifesaving care.
In her CPR and choking segment today on Houston Life, Gail broke down the essentials: call 911, look for an AED, start compressions, and keep going until first responders arrive.
What is CPR? (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation)

Emergencies aren’t always life-or-death situations. In her First Aid Basics segment on Houston Life, Gail reminded us that knowing how to handle everyday accidents is just as important. From treating cuts and scrapes to burns and sprains, the right first step helps injuries heal faster and prevents them from getting worse.
What you need in your at-home first aid kit:
Tailoring kits to your lifestyle, whether you’re on the road a lot, have young kids, or play sports. while supplies are important, Gail emphasized that confidence is key and staying calm during the chaos.
You don’t need to do everything perfectly. What matters is that you take action.
