Bring the flavors of west Africa into your home with the Art of Fufu

Houston – Have you seen fufu all over your social media? Today on Houston Life, we welcomed Chef Kavachi Ukegbu, founder of Grubido, for a hands-on look at The Art of Fufu a cultural celebration rooted in West African tradition. Fufu, often called a “swallow,” is made from yam, cassava, or garri, and is traditionally served with hearty soups like egusi a rich, savory blend made with ground melon seeds, vegetables, and spices. Chef Kavachi demonstrated how to make garri fufu from scratch using the hot water method, and paired it with a vegan egusi soup, giving viewers a delicious introduction to this staple dish.

She also told us about The Art of Fufu Food & Art Show happening tomorrow at Flatland Gallery in Montrose. The free event will feature live Afrobeats, tastings, Fufu-inspired artwork, and signed copies of Chef Kavachi’s cookbook.
