Houston β When cousins Farrukh and Harris Mirza moved from New York to Houston during the pandemic, they didnβt just pack up their lives; they packed up their dreams, too.
Having lost all their hospitality businesses in NYC due to COVID-19, the pair started from scratch in a new city, armed with nothing but a food truck and a fierce determination to build something special. For two years, they drove that food truck all over Houston, βThere wasnβt a neighborhood we didnβt hit,β Harris Mirza said, just to get their name out there and give locals a taste of their wings.
Now, that hard work has paid off. Their brick-and-mortar restaurant, Wing It, located in Sugar Land, is a late-night hotspot thatβs bringing comfort, quality, and flavor to the table - without the high price tag.
Harris Mirza, who grew up in a one-bedroom apartment in Queens with three brothers, says what he loves most about living in Texas is the space, βEverythingβs so big here! I love it.β And that sense of abundance flows into Wing Itβs vibe. Designed to feel more like a lounge than a typical fast-casual joint, the space is thoughtfully decorated with comfy seating and a welcoming atmosphere where families can kick back, hang out, and enjoy food thatβs a serious cut above.
Chef Farrukh Mirza is the creative force behind the kitchen, and nothing goes on the menu that he wouldnβt eat himself. Heβs constantly experimenting with new sauces and unexpected flavor combinations, but one thing that never changes is his commitment to quality. All their food is made with fresh, never-frozen chicken and meat. Wing It takes it to the next level by pairing bold, handcrafted flavors with premium ingredients.
The inspiration behind Chef Farrukhβs culinary passion runs deep. His mother, who now helps out in the kitchen at Wing It, was a major influence. Back in New York, she worked long hours at Dunkinβ Donuts and would often call Farrukh from work, guiding him step-by-step over the phone as he helped get dinner started for the family. That early hands-on training and maternal encouragement sparked a lifelong love for cooking, and it shows in every dish on the menu.
From their signature house-made sauces to their special spice blend used in everything from the seasoning to the breading, Wing It isnβt just about grabbing a quick bite, itβs about savoring something thoughtfully crafted.
To celebrate National Chicken Wing Day, Wing It is offering $1 wings from 6β9 p.m. on Monday, July 29.
