Trae Tha Truth and Relief Gang Step Up in Kerr County: “We Just Do What We Can”

Houston – As heartbreaking floodwaters swept through Kerr County and surrounding parts of Central Texas over the weekend, Trae Tha Truth and his Relief Gang team did what they always feel called to do: show up with open hearts, ready hands, and a deep commitment to community.

For Trae, this work has never been about recognition or headlines. It’s about meeting people where they are—in the middle of loss and uncertainty—and doing whatever he can to ease the burden. “We don’t wait for someone to tell us what to do,” he told Houston Life. “We just get out there and do what we can. And God always makes it work.”

Speaking with Houston Life via Zoom from his truck in Kerr County, Trae described the emotional toll of what his team is witnessing firsthand. “I was literally in the midst of trying to help with search and rescues,” he shared. “Then we see trucks pull in and they say they found a pile of bodies… It gets even more heartbreaking. You still have hope that maybe someone else might be found alive.”

Beyond Supplies - Showing Up with Support

In the immediate aftermath of the flooding, the Relief Gang has been delivering food and essential items, but as Trae explained, many families are still displaced or unable to come out for help. The needs are shifting by the hour.

“They definitely need cleaning supplies. They need tools and hands to help remove debris. It’s a little bit of everything,” he said. “Right now, I’m just doing what I can - bringing in supplies, but also giving them the physical support they need.”

When asked how people at home could get involved, Trae suggested that cleanup efforts will continue long after the cameras leave. “If you want to come out here later on a weekend and help clear trees or debris, just show up and ask someone how you can help. They’ll appreciate it,” he said.

A City - and a State - With Big Hearts

As always, Trae and his team remind us what community looks like in action. It’s not about rushing in with answers—it’s about showing up, listening, and doing the work no one else is doing yet.

“They need us,” Trae said simply. “So we’re here.”
