Chip In for Love: Katy Shelter Offers Free Microchips and Discounted Adoptions 🐶🐱

Houston – If you’ve been thinking about protecting your pet, or adding a new furry friend to the family, today might be the perfect day to take action.

Citizens for Animal Protection, a nonprofit animal shelter serving the Greater Houston area, is hosting a Free Microchipping Day at its Katy facility. From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., pet owners can stop by to have their dogs or cats microchipped and registered, completely free of charge. No appointment or income requirement is necessary. The only thing you’ll need is your pet and a little bit of time.

“We want to help prevent those heartbreaking moments when a pet gets lost and doesn’t make it home,” said CAP marketing coordinator Michelle Chavero. “Microchipping is a simple step that can make all the difference.”

The event is open to the public and limited to the first 100 pets, so arriving early is encouraged.

In addition to free microchipping, CAP is offering half-off adoption fees now through July 31. The hope is that more Houstonians will consider opening their homes to animals in need, especially during the busy summer months when shelters often see a spike in intakes.

Throughout the day, CAP staff and volunteers will also be on hand to talk about the organization’s mission, walk guests through the adoption process, and introduce some of the adorable dogs and cats currently looking for forever homes.

“Every animal has a story,” said Chavero. “Some come to us after being abandoned, some from owners who can no longer care for them—but all of them are deserving of love and a second chance.”

If you’re on the fence about adoption, the shelter says now is the time to come meet the pets, ask questions, and maybe even fall in love. Plus, with discounted fees and microchipping included, it’s easier than ever to get started as a responsible pet owner.

Citizens for Animal Protection is located at 17555 Katy Freeway, just off I-10. The organization has been serving the Greater Houston area since 1972 and relies on community support to continue its lifesaving work.
