Did you know you have to be licensed to detail a car? We just met the youngest detailer in the game

Steve Thompson is already making a name for himself after detailing planes, luxury cars, and traveling the world

Houston – At just 14 years old, Steve Thompson III, also known as Detail Kid has already accomplished so much in the world of automotive detailing. The Boise, Idaho, teenager is the world’s youngest licensed detailer at the age of 11, earning certifications from the International Detailing Association and training with elite professionals across the country.

This weekend, Steve is in Houston at the Lone Star Flight Museum. His goal? To inspire the next generation to not just detail, but to dream big, work hard, and take pride in whatever they pursue. “I don’t want every kid to become a detailer,” he said. “I just want them to believe in themselves and know that their passion.”

Steven grew up in his family’s shop, Detail Doctors, and says he fell in love with cars from an early age. He’s detailed everything from luxury vehicles and private jets to historic cars at the Petersen Automotive Museum and even Ronald Reagan’s Air Force One at the Reagan Presidential Library.

Workshops with Detail Kid take place this Sunday at 10 a.m., noon, and 2 p.m. at the Lone Star Flight Museum.
