Houston, Texas – Whether it’s sharing the screen with major stars or being a dad, Dave Maldonado’s determination is unmatched.
You’ve likely seen him in Deepwater Horizon with Mark Wahlberg, Free State of Jones with Matthew McConaughey, Trumbo with Bryan Cranston, or The Tomorrow War alongside Chris Pratt. On the small screen, he’s made appearances in NCIS: New Orleans, Homeland, Queen Sugar, True Detective, and Showtime’s Your Honor.
Despite the star-studded resume, Maldonado is still calls Spring, Texas home and enjoys the fact that you can live anywhere and audition remotely.
Currently in theaters, Sinners marks a major career milestone for Dave. Directed by Ryan Coogler (Black Panther, Creed), the film stars Michael B. Jordan and follows twin brothers trying to escape their past, only to find a darker force waiting for them in their hometown.
Dave attended the NYC premiere — a standout moment he doesn’t take for granted. Speaking about working with Coogler and Jordan, he said, “I can’t say enough about Ryan and Michael — they were just so kind and humble the entire time… It was a grueling shooting schedule, long hours, complicated shots. But I never saw them lose patience. I was really impressed.”
Fans can also catch Dave in Caddo Lake, a psychological thriller now streaming on Max. Directed by Logan George and Celine Held, and produced with help from M. Night Shyamalan, the film adds yet another genre to Dave’s ever-expanding repertoire.
In Netflix’s upcoming limited series His & Hers, Dave plays a key role alongside Jon Bernthal (The Punisher) and Tessa Thompson (Creed, Thor: Love and Thunder). The show explores conflicting narratives surrounding a hometown murder, with each episode peeling back more layers of truth — and deception.
Living in Houston with his wife Lori and their now college-aged kids, Dave manages the juggle of acting and family life with humor and humility. “It was a lot harder when they were little,” he said. “Now they’re self-sufficient — thankfully, they got Mom’s brains.”
