Houston – Cameron George, Blender and Global Head of Advocacy for SirDavis American Whisky, recently joined Houston Life to talk about the brand’s exciting partnership with the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, as well as to showcase a signature cocktail—The Texas Buckiin’ right in time for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo at NRG.
SirDavis American Whisky, co-owned by Houston’s own Beyoncé and Moët Hennessy, is one of the official sponsors of the Houston Rodeo this year. This marks an exciting milestone for the brand, which launced in August 2024. George a Seattle native, couldn’t be more thrilled to bring it to Houston. He moved to the city last November to take on his new role and was drawn to Houston’s dynamic energy and vibrant spirit, which mirrors the brand and it’s flavors.
George shared the backstory of SirDavis American Whisky, explaining that the brand pays homage to Beyoncé's great-grandfather, Davis Hogue, who was a moonshiner during Prohibition. The brand’s name is a tribute to his legacy. The title Sir holds special significance, as during Hogue’s time, it was reserved for white men. The brand’s inclusion of Sir reflects both a historical respect and recognition of his contributions.
Before mixing up the Texas Buckiin’ cocktail, George highlighted the craftsmanship behind the whisky itself. SirDavis is made with 51% rye and 49% malted barley, reflecting a blend of American traditions. George recommended enjoying the whisky neat to fully appreciate its complexity, with hints of honey, cinnamon, clove, and red fruit, all thanks to aging in Pedro Jimenez sherry casks.
When it comes to mixing cocktails, George demonstrated how to make the Texas Buckiin, a refreshing drink that’s a must-try at the many SirDavis activations happening at the rodeo this year. The cocktail combines 1.5 ounces of SirDavis with honey syrup, fresh-squeezed lemon juice, and ginger beer. George also shared a simple recipe for the honey syrup: just mix two parts honey with one part water and heat until dissolved. The addition of fresh lemon juice brightens the drink, while the ginger beer adds a delightful zing.

For those attending the Houston Rodeo, The Texas Buckiin’ will be available at various bar outlets, including in the Chairman’s and Champions Clubs, where guests can sample the drink in a smaller tasting size. At NRG Stadium, rodeo and concert ticket holders can enjoy exclusive access to SirDavis. The whisky won’t just be confined to the stadium—SirDavis will be featured in multiple activations throughout the rodeo grounds and outside of the rodeo at partnerships with local venues.

If you don’t have plans to visit the grounds this year, you can always purchase bottles at Specs, Premier Fine Wine & Spirits in The Heights, and Pearland Liquor.
George also explained the unique spelling of the brand’s name—whisky without the E. This reflects the brand’s global approach and draws inspiration from the way Scotch and Japanese whiskeys are spelled. He noted that many iconic American whiskey brands, such as Maker’s Mark and George Dickel, follow this convention.
With SirDavis American Whisky now making its mark in Houston, George is excited about what’s to come, from its presence at the rodeo to the potential for more whisky drinkers to explore the brand.
