Houston – This holiday season, The Garden Theatre invites Houston’s theater lovers to Whoville in their latest production, “Who’s Holiday!” by Matthew Lombardo.
The adults-only comedy, stars local actress Chaney Moore as Cindy Lou Who who all grown up. The hilarious one-woman show, runs from December 13 to 22 at Midtown Arts and Theater Center Houston (MATCH) and offers a darker, but, funny take on what happened to Cindy Lou Who after her encounter with the Grinch. The show is all in rhyme, but it’s anything but innocent. Cindy Lou is grown up, living in a beaten-down trailer on Mount Crumpit, where she spends her days sipping martinis, smoking cigarettes, and reflecting on her past.
Moore is a veteran in the Houston theater scene, performing with Main Street Theater, Stages, The Catastrophic Theatre, and more. Her charm, storytelling, and quick one-liners were apparent during her interview with Houston Life co-hosts Derrick Shore and Tessa Barrera. Her voice might be more recognizable as she has dozens of anime voice credits under her belt.
Who’s Holiday! Written by Matthew Lombardo, Off-Broadway in 2017 but not without controversy. Dr. Seuss Enterprises challenged the show in court, claiming it violated copyrights. Ultimately, the courts ruled in favor of Lombardo, affirming the play’s fair-use parody status. Since then, the comedy has become a hit across the country.
The Garden Theatre, one of Houston’s newest theatre companies, has quickly gained a reputation and popularity for unique and forward-thinking productions. There are still sevral opportunities to experience the Garden Theatre as ‘Who’s Holiday!’ is on of three productions remaining in the the 2024-2025 season.
