HOUSTON – Imagine finding a career path that is fulfilling and packed with perks. That is exactly what Melanie Camp from Houston Life discovered when she dropped by Pipefitters Local 211 over in Deer Park. The place is all about lifting up local journeymen who work in the piping industry, offering them benefits like health care and pension plans. Plus, if you are looking to dive into this world, they have free training programs for apprentices.
It is all about being part of something bigger and Pipefitters Local 211 president Randy Beal said, it is a great time for journeymen to join Local 211. “A lot of people join for the family insurance. It doesn’t come off their check but is a fringe benefit above and beyond their check. So, they not only get insurance for them, but they get insurance for their family.” Beal also explained that the pension plan available through Local 211 means that “whenever you retire, you get a monthly check for the rest of your life.”
Pipefitters Local 211 business manager Bryan Edwards said many of their apprentices graduate without any college debt into careers that pay six-figure salaries.
“It’s free training for everyone involved; it’s a five-year apprenticeship; we call it ‘earn while you learn,’ explained Octavio Rojas, the JATC training coordinator at Pipefitters Local 211.
