🎨 Bayou City Art Festival

Enter the Click 2 Win Contest for Bayou City Art Festival Tickets all September long

Admission: $15

Details: The 50th annual Bayou City Art Festival in downtown Houston will feature the work of 220 artists representing 19 different disciplines. Shoppers can expect music, food and entertainment.

Admission is $15 for adults, $5 for children ages 6 to 12 and free for children under 6.

Details: Legendary Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Stevie Nicks will take the stage at the Pavillion in The Woodlands as part of her 2022 tour. She’ll be joined by Vanessa Carlton.

🚂 The Market at Sawyer Yards

When: Oct. 8

Admission: Free

Details: Held on the second Saturday of each month, this market features artisan crafts, with a focus on folk art. The market will host dozens of exhibitors and live music. Food and drink vendors on site will offer an array of eats, beer, wine and cocktails.

The craft market coincides with the Sawyer Yards Open Studios event. From noon to 5 p.m. artists from The Silos, Silver Street, Winter Street, Sabine Street, and Summer Street Studios will open their studios to the public. Visitors can spend the afternoon wandering through six repurposed warehouses browsing an extensive selection of painting, sculpture, jewelry, photography, clothing, textiles, printmaking, mixed media, and more.

👑 Texas Renaissance Festival

Hear ye, hear ye! The Texas Renaissance Festival is back for its 48th year, bringing with it the whimsical magic and traditions of themed weekends, medieval entertainment and unfathomably large smoked turkey legs.

Oct. 6 through Nov. 27, the king and queen will once again welcome peasants to their magical kingdom about an hour north of the Houston area. Step through the gates and enter an enchanted world filled with villains and beasties, knights and nobles, fairies and elves, and other fanciful delights.

🏡 East Montrose Home Tour and Art Walk

When: Oct. 8

Admission: $20

Details: East Montrose Civic Association will hold its biennial Home Tour and Art Walk Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Browse nine east Montrose homes built between the early 20th century and 2014. Then visit the working studios of nine local artists. Iconic music venue Anderson Fair will also open for tours.

East Montrose is in the 77006 zip code and lies within the boundaries of Montrose, West Gray, Genesee, and Fairview. Drive, walk or bike over, and look for the home tour signs.

Advance tickets cost $15. Day-of-tour tickets are $20 and will be available at 908 Welch. The Art Walk is free.

🧸 Houston Toy Museum grand opening

Details: Matt and Sara Broussard will open their Houston Toy Museum in the Heights on Thursday. Sara is the museum’s director. Matt, the chief toy officer. The museum’s nostalgia-inducing collection runs the gamut. Highlights include Star Wars memorabilia, Cabbage Patch dolls, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and ancient LEGO sets. See more here.

The couple hopes visitors walk away not only with a renewed sense of childish wonder but also a deeper understanding of the cultural forces that shaped toys and vice versa. Exhibits showcase the toys as well as the inventors and the artists behind their design and branding. The museums dives deep, exploring racial representation in toys, as well as the influence of gender stereotypes on the way that certain toys were marketed. Also addressed: How technological advancements impacted toy production and the future of toys.

Details: The 43rd Annual Festival Chicano is a reflection of the artistic creativity that has developed in the Chicano cultural experience after centuries of influence from native peoples, Mexico, Europeans, and the U.S.A.

Chicano music has been historically shaped by many diverse styles such as Mexican rancheras, corridos, mariachi, orchestra, Tejano, conjunto, big band, rhythm and blues, country, rock and roll, and many others.

The festival is a celebration of culture through the musical expression of countless generations of artists.

Spirit of the Bayou (Buffalo Bayou Partnership)

🦬 Indigenous People’s Day Celebration

Details: Armand Bayou Nature Center, in partnership with the American Indian Center of Houston, is hosting an Indigenous People’s celebration. Programs and speakers will focus on Native American heritage. There will be thematic hikes, a station for children’s traditional games, craft vendors, demonstrations of Akokisa tools and construction of an Akokisa shelter.
