A Heat Advisory has been issued for the Houston area from noon to 7 p.m. Tuesday as temperatures climb to around 100 degrees and the heat index reaches as high as 110. This level of heat can quickly become dangerous, especially for anyone working or exercising outdoors. Drink plenty of water, take frequent breaks in air conditioning or shade and never leave children or pets inside a parked vehicle—even for a few minutes.
Houston’s stormy stretch is over, but the tradeoff is a return to intense summer heat. Temperatures will climb throughout the week with highs pushing into the 100-degree range as early as Tuesday.
Several consecutive days of triple-digit temperatures are possible and heat index values will range between 108 to 110 degrees. This will prompt heat advisories starting as early as Tuesday. Overnight lows near 80 will provide little relief, increasing the risk of heat stress through the upcoming work week.
Monday’s Forecast:
This will most likely be the last day with more typical summertime heat. Temperatures climb to the upper 90s with a feels like number of 106°.
High pressure dome is responsible for the extreme heat:
A very stout ridge of high pressure is strengthening across the Central Plains and will be the dominant weather pattern for us for the next five days.
These systems are very stubborn and hard to move so expect very hot days with very humid mornings generally in the low 80s. Storm chances will be very hard to find for most of the next 7-10 days.
Once these high-pressure ridges get into place, they will not move for a number of days. We will likely see this high keep strengthening through the week.
This upcoming weekend the high pressure begins to move west, allowing for a weak front to approach the Gulf Coast. This will be the next best chance to see any measurable rainfall in southeast Texas.
Heat index values will range between 106° to 110° each afternoon. Once the heat index hits 108° heat advisories go into effect.
The tropics will stay quiet:
We’ll get long break from our next storm. There is nothing brewing in the tropics for the next seven to ten days.
10 Day Forecast:
The forecast remains dry through the end of next week as temperatures surge into the triple digits. A slight increase in clouds and moisture could bring temperatures back into the upper and mid-90s next weekend. There is also a chance of rain for the start of August.
