We have a tricky forecast Friday. We have an abundant amount of moisture from the subtropical jet stream. But we’re relying on small areas of low pressure, called disturbances, to create the rain. These lows have potential to cause isolated street flooding. But if the disturbances miss us, we won’t get much. I call this a low confidence forecast.
There is also a chance for strong storms to develop in the afternoon. But don’t be surprised either way if we do or don’t have storms later in the day.
What you need to know:
Despite the low confidence in this forecast the potential is there for flooding. The flood threat is now focused NE of Harris county.
Isolated street flooding is possible anywhere heavier storms repeatedly move over the same neighborhoods. These are your typical flood prone low-lying areas.
Saturday: Additional Rain Possible Before Gradual Improvement
Another round of scattered storms may develop Saturday afternoon, although coverage and intensity should be less. There is currently no organized flood threat. Below is the futurecast at 2pm.
Mother’s Day Sunday Looks good for mom:
Most of the rain should exit by Sunday morning, leaving behind drier conditions and warmer temperatures for Mother’s Day activities across Houston.
A few isolated showers cannot be ruled out in the evening, but much of the day appears favorable for outdoor plans.
10 Day Forecast:
Looking ahead into next week, expect a drier weather pattern but the mugginess will stick around with temperatures forecast to range between 84 to 86 degrees.
