HOUSTON – It has been a dry month of April. In total, we’ve accumulated approximately 1.77 inches of rain at Bush Intercontinental Airport, which is about half of the amount of rainfall we need to stay within the climatological “normal”.

While we don’t see a total washout coming up, we’re looking at a relatively wet week ahead as we close out the month.

The system that we’re tracking currently remains out to the west over the Rockies. This will keep us relatively rain-free as we go through at least Tuesday, although we can’t rule out some clouds dropping a few sprinkles, as we have a lot of moisture in the atmosphere.

By mid-week that system pushes east, bringing elevated rain chances our way for Wednesday and Thursday as the cold front approaches.

Uncertainty remains in timing and intensity of these storms.

We continue to see rain chances during the back half of the week and through the weekend, as multiple systems work their way through SE Texas. You don’t need to cancel your weekend plans, but know that there may be a few times that you’ll need an umbrella if you find yourself outside.

Even as we get the first full week of May, we’re seeing 50-60% chance of above average precipitation chances, continuing our wet weather pattern.
