Chief Meteorologist Frank Billingsley to Houston: Good Bye and Good Blog

WATCH FRANK’S FULL SPEECH HERE:

WEATHER PUN ALERT: You’ve been showered with the news and surely snow that I’m giving up my rain as Chief Meteorologist tonight after four decades in the High-Pressure cooker, thirty years at KPRC 2.

Time to chill? Don’t mind if I dew.

I began climating the weather ladder in 1982 and while this job hasn’t always been a breeze, the reward of funneling life-saving information to you has re-galed me. Which memories are in the front?

The Big Freezes of 1989 and 2021 with a few flakes now and then; the floods (of course) from the San Jacinto River in 1994 to Tropical Storm Allison in 2001 to Harvey in 2017 and all those 10-20″ episodes sprinkled in. And wind: from the 1992 Channelview tornadoes to last month’s Derecho!

In the hurricane department, 2005 Katrina’s big scare and Rita’s bigger scare just three weeks later, then 2008 Ike and those helicopter tours to show you just what blew in.

But the shear pleasures proved overrunning—Radar the weather dog and that beautiful weather garden, the auctions and galas and events and festivals and the wonderful people that come with them have been the super cell. We’ve roped in rodeos with gust-o and tide one on at Mardi Gras!

It’s been a n-ice career, but I’m ready to coastal for a bit. It just Feels Like the time is right. Still, you’ll be mist. And that’s not just a dry line.
