HOUSTON – Houston Independent School District will begin hiring teachers this weekend for the next school year. “We are focusing on the south Texas region along with the rest of the state,” said Diana Lum, senior manager of recruitment and selection. “Particularly, we mention the south Texas region because of the need for bilingual teachers. “We’re not only just looking for bilingual teachers, but we’re also looking for teachers in secondary math and science, and special education, and all other areas,” Lum said. The school district usually hires around 1,800 teachers a year and there’s an extra incentive for certain positions.

HOUSTON – UPS is hosting its annual one-day hiring blitz, known as UPS Brown Friday, on Friday. The company is hiring at least 50,000 new employees across the country, including about 3,000 positions in Houston. Applicants can conduct in-person or virtual interviews, and the company will be making job offers on the spot. HOUSTON Harris County is now hiring. The fire marshals office says theyre looking to add up to 10 COVID-19 compliance monitors. According to the county, the new hires will respond to complaints and check on businesses to ensure theyre following the coronavirus-related health guidelines. Were looking at if people are practicing social distancing, said Rachel Neutzler, the Director of Communications for the Harris County Fire Marshals Office. Harris County currently has five compliance monitors that handle between 45 to 50 complaints per day.

HOUSTON – As administrators prepare for the start of the new school year, the Houston Independent School District said it still needs to hire roughly 275 teachers. As of Wednesday night, the district had more than 360 certified teacher jobs posted online. But Zeph Capo, president of the Houston Federation of Teachers, said the number of openings could soon rise as the deadline approaches for teachers to resign. HISD is hosting a virtual teacher job fair on July 15 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Teachers who plan to resign before the new school year must notify the district by Friday night.
