Houston ranked 93rd out of 182 cities in WalletHub's 2025 report on the healthiest cities in America, despite being home to renowned hospitals. The city scored poorly in health care (135th) and green space (121st), which are crucial for wellbeing.

Texas was named the 9th least green state in America. The Lone Star State also was ranked among the lowest for air and water quality as well as energy and gas consumption per capita.

A survey is shedding some uncomfortable light on Texas' quality of Children's health care. “The quality of children’s health care should be one of the most important considerations for parents when deciding where to live,” Chip Lupo, WalletHub Analyst said in a statement.

A total of three cities in Texas were named among the top 20 most obese and overweight cities and Houston, despite being a foodie city, was not among the list.

“Texas residents also don’t pay income tax, but spend 1.58% of their income on real estate taxes, one of the highest rates in the country,” the report claimed.

Texas was ranked the 5th worst state for women, a jump since 2024 when Texas was ranked 7th.

Ironically, a few months ago the same study named Houston the second most sinful city in the U.S. right behind Las Vegas.

HOUSTON – Texas ranked as the fourth worst state in unemployment recovery amid the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a recent study by WalletHub. Data showed the state’s unemployment was 8% in November 2020. According to the study, the unemployment rate in Texas increased by 135.2% from November 2020 to November 2019. The study also found that “adjusted continued claims” also increased by 283.2% year-over-year.
