American Airlines and United Airlines say they will begin to furlough 32,000 employees after lawmakers and the White House failed to agree on a broad pandemic relief package that includes more federal aid for airlines. Late Tuesday, the Treasury Department said it completed loans to seven major airlines: American, United, Alaska, JetBlue, Frontier, Hawaiian and SkyWest. FAA: Check engines on 737s that could shut down mid-flight

Read full article: FAA: Check engines on 737s that could shut down mid-flight

WASHINGTON Safety regulators issued an emergency order directing airlines to inspect and if necessary replace a critical engine part on popular Boeing 737 jets after four reports of engines shutting down during flights. The Federal Aviation Administration said Friday that its order affected about 2,000 twin-engine passenger jets in the United States. Delta Air Lines said it would inspect 20 planes but did not say whether any of its planes suffered engine shutdowns. The directive does not apply to the newer Boeing 737 Max, which has been grounded worldwide since March 2019 after two crashes that killed 346 people. Passenger jets have two or more engines, and multiple engine failures of the type that FAA warned about in its order are rare.

Read full article: How the pandemic may change airlines much-hated $200 rebooking fees

Airlines have done away with their $200 change fees, giving passengers the flexibility they've long desired at a time when few people are traveling. None of the major US airlines have signaled they will abandon change fees altogether. US carriers made more than $3 billion from change fees in 2019 alone, according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. Getting rid of change fees, airlines hoped, could spur would-be travelers to book flights even if the ever-changing health crisis and local quarantine orders forced travelers to change their plans. Some critics of the change fees point to Southwest Airlines, which is the only major US carrier that doesn't impose them.

The contract expired at midnight, meaning the seven Houston Methodist hospitals and its outpatient clinics are no longer in-network as of Jan. 1, 2020. "90%, probably more than that, of the doctors (in Baytown) are Methodist doctors," Thompson said. UnitedHealthcare released the following statement:“Care at Houston Methodist Hospital is significantly more expensive than care at other top-ranked hospitals in Texas as well as some of the most prestigious hospitals in the entire country. United’s unfortunate decision – and disruption to their members’ in-network access to Houston Methodist -- is forcing employers and consumers to pick different health care options for this year.
