After devastating blows from the derecho and Hurricane Beryl, many homeowners across the Houston area are still struggling to recover. For some, like 88-year-old Juana Martinez-Leija, the challenge of repairing and maintaining a home hit hard by the storms is too overwhelming to face alone.

The home she’s been living in for the past 5 decades was once a safe haven but over the years, turned into a dangerous place. Feeling like she had nowhere else to turn, Miss Brown’s dear friend emailed the “Spencer Solves It” Team to step in and help.

This non-profit organization helps ensure Houstonians have access to safe, sanitary and secure housing.

The Restoration Team is dedicated to ensuring that every Houstonian has access to safe, sanitary, and secure housing. KPRC 2, along with community partners Energy Transfer, Houston Christian University, and Exclusive Furniture, joined forces to help Vicki Fowler, a Houston high school teacher whose house was severely damaged by Hurricane Beryl.

More than 200 volunteers with The Restoration Team spent 6 months ripping out moldy sheetrock and putting 87-year-old George Tisdale’s home back together. Since the non-profit started after Hurricane Harvey with members of just 4 churches, it has grown. Pulling in and putting people to work from here and across the country.

A 92-year-old Houston navy veteran 'DRAINED' by his Houston water bill is in for a huge surprise. You may remember, Amy Davis first introduced you to Jessie Lara a few months ago. Since then the entire community has pitched in to help.

What started as an investigation into a $4,000+ water bill draining an elderly Navy veteran has turned into a touching story of Houstonians stepping up to help the hero make his aging house a home again. When members of The Restoration Team saw investigator Amy Davis’ Facebook post about 92-year-old Jessie Lara’s dilemma, they emailed to ask if they could help. They have been working for weeks in the sweltering heat for a man they didn’t even know.
