After a season like no other, battling through a global pandemic and public health crisis, two teams have finally made it to Super Bowl LV. Although they aren't Texas teams per say, Dallas-Fort Worth area Texas High School Football won't go unrepresented. Before playing in the NFL, Mahomes had an outstanding career with the Texas Tech football program. AdArmani Watts - North ForneyArmani Watts, S, WR, North Forney, Class of 2014Watts proved to be a force to be reckoned with for North Forney on both ends of the football. With McKinney North, Jones totaled 4,810 rushing yards and 73 touchdowns on 541 carries.

Westlake vs North Shore, Goliath vs Goliath. Galena Park North Shore, the two-time Division I State Champs, vs the Division II State Champs Austin Westlake. North Shore, led by Auburn signee Demetrius Davis and Texas A&M Signee Shadrach Banks, ran into a stingy Westlake defense that kept the explosive North Shore offense in check. Westlake ends the reign of North Shore and will face Southlake Carroll in the 6A Division I State Championship game on Saturday at AT&T Stadium. The State Championship will be a House Divided, as Westlake Head Coach Todd Dodge will face his dad Riley Dodge, who helms the ship at Southlake Carroll.

Here are VYPE's Class 6A favorites! Cy-FairClass 6A Region III may be if not the hardest part of the bracket in the state. KatyWith Seven Lakes taking the final Division I spot out of District 19-6A, Katy got sent to the Division II bracket this year. The last time the Tigers won a state crown, which was back in 2015, it came in the DII bracket. The services of Davis & Davis will be leaned on.

HOUSTON - The Elite 11 changed everything for Maddox Kopp. On Wednesday, Kopp narrowed his list to a Top 5 - Houston, Tulane, Wyoming, Colorado and Ole Miss. When asked what he's examining the most in his ultimate decision, Kopp said it all comes down to fit. Miller (2018 Houston Christian graduate) is currently at Northwestern and Anderson (2019 St. Thomas graduate) is at Lamar University, both of whom play basketball.

SBS FOOTBALL SOARS TO STATE SEMIS - Second Baptist School's amazing 2019 football season did not go unnoticed. The Second Baptist School, which went 12-1 this season, reached the state semifinals, making it back to-back appearances. His bodyguard Dylan Cordell was a first-team, all-state selection and was named the TD Club of Houston's Private School Lineman of the Year. "Josh Johnson lit it up this year," Second Baptist School coach Terry Pirtle said. Second Baptist School football wrapped up the program's seventh-straight district championship and the first undefeated regular season since 1999.

36 college football programs wanted Austin LBJ Early College cornerback Latrell McCutchin to commit to them. "Oklahoma stood out because the opportunity to change how the world views defensive backs coming out of the university really intrigued me," said McCutchin. That amount of college interest is because McCutchin's ranked as the eighth best Texas prospect for the Class of 2021. VYPE even recognized him as the best football recruit in the Austin area in January. "I wouldn't say that the chemistry of our secondary only includes [fellow recruit] Andrew [Mukuba] and I," said McCutchin.

HOUSTON - It is not out of the ordinary for Carson Rodgers to be busy during the summer. The dual-sport athlete - who quarterbacks the St. Pius X offense on the gridiron and takes the bump for the baseball team during the spring - has always played multiple sports. "I've been playing baseball and football since I was a little kid," Rodgers said. Recently, Rodgers attended the UT-Permian Basin football camp and then the following weekend was back pitching. Georgetown offensive lineman Connor Heffernan has experienced a spike in his football career over the past few months. Heffernan has found a good amount of success in the recruiting process, as evident by his 17 college football offers. He ultimately decided on Baylor over fellow Power Five programs Mississippi State and Syracuse and 14 other opportunities. "Prior to this year, I wasn't ranked very high and I never let that get to me," said Heffernan. "Georgetown is one of the few places that got to have a full strength and conditioning camp this summer," said Heffernan.

Last week, the University Interscholastic League announced its plans for the fall sports. Class 4A and below would begin on time, while Class 5A and 6A are slated to start a month later than they would normally. KPRC Channel 2 Sports Director Randy McIlvoy caught up with UIL Deputy Director Dr. Jamey Harrison recently to discuss the UIL's decision and the fluidity of the situation as we move forward. One of its athletes, five-sport female Tristin Keller, has found a way to be a part of both groups. "I have played nine different sports growing up: gymnastics, soccer, baseball, softball, football, tennis, track, cross country and basketball. Keller ultimately condensed her athletic involvement to basketball, football, softball, tennis and track. At first glance, two things immediately stand out: the five sports she still plays and being a female member of the football program. [And] my entire family is part of the Mason Puncher football program: my brother, Tyson Keller, is a 2018 UIL 2A Division I state champ, my dad, John Keller, is an assistant coach, and my mom, Sherry Keller, is a cheer coach."

The quarantine is still in place, but University of Texas head football coach Tom Herman is here to talk football. Tom will speak in a Touchdown Club of Houston virtual event about the upcoming college football season and about UT. HOUSTON - The University Interscholastic League has announced a radical plan for the start of the 2020-2021 fall season. On Tuesday, the UIL announced a new calendar for fall sports but it is split. Class 1A-4A will be allowed to start on time, while Class 5A and 6A will be pushed back a month into September. Practice for football and volleyball teams will begin August 3, while volleyball will start games August 10 and football on August 27, like it was originally scheduled. According to High School Football America there are 13 states that have adjusted the start of the 2020 football season.

The football stars of Houston were socially-distanced and masked-up as VYPE hosted it's 2020 Football Photo Shoot powered by Whataburger. Over 300 of the city's top players attended shoots at Spring Branch's Tully Stadium, Sheldon ISD's Panther Stadium and Spring ISD's Planet Ford Stadium. Ace Whitehead is his name and he's a multi-sport athlete at Lampasas High School. It started with the 2019 Texas high school football season, when he recorded his best year to date with 4,982 yards and 75 touchdowns. The buzz continued in 2020 because college baseball programs were starting to show more interest in his athletic abilities and fans wanted an encore during the Texas high school baseball season. Before he relocates to the Forty Acres, Whitehead is hoping for high school sports to start and end around their normal time so he can accomplish more in his hometown. "I know that our senior class really wants to give it our all one last time for Lampasas."

Elite 11 Finalist. Elite 11 quarterback. 6 and then in the final rankings he made it among the Elite 11. "Elite 11 was always a dream of mine," Drones said. During the Elite 11, Drones enjoyed learning from the coaches and getting to know the other quarterbacks.

In the end, it was the St. Thomas quarterback who nailed the final throw to win the challenge, get the Golden Gun Jersey and propel his name up the Elite 11 rankings. The quarterbacks are set to hit the field again tonight at 6 p.m. for Day 2 of the Elite 11, with the camp wrapping up on Wednesday.

We won't get De La Salle versus North Shore. It was always known that in 2021, North Shore and Shadow Creek would play against each other at Freedom Field. The last two years we got East Side (North Shore) vs West Side (Katy) - which was split. In this meeting, Shadow Creek would try and extend its winning streak to 17-straight and, oh yeah, 32 wins out of the last 33 games played. North Shore would look to improve to the same record 32-1 in its last 33 games played.
